My first video, go gentle!

Hey everyone

This is the first video I’ve ever recorded and put out there for people to see. It’s a very basic fault nothing too exciting, just wanted to try something new.

I should have said in the video that I’ve never had the fault happen to me, so my investigations were purely on the owners description, turn key nothing happens, roll it off the drive and it bumps no problem. Like I said the video is very basic and the fault (or what I’m pretty sure is the fault) is very basic. But I suppose it does stress the fact to not over complicate things!

I’d appreciate any feed back, just go gentle please! 🤣

you mention a new battery, there’s a reset procedure for this not a lot of people know about.

Switch ignition on
Press brake and accelerator together for 5 seconds or more.
Battery light will start flashing.
Press and release accelerator 3 times.
Battery light will stop flashing.

There is a data pid that monitors numbers of days battery’s been in use.

Apparently it was the dealer that fitted the battery, so I would hope that they performed it. However it is a Duracell battery so there is a question mark over whether it was done by the dealer or not.

I didn’t know about that reset procedure so thanks for letting me know. Good to know for the future. Wouldn’t cause an intermittent non start though would it?

Good first video 👍

I went to a Mazda 2 last night (RAC patrol),
Found the earth strap from battery to the body was loose due to a cross threaded bolt
on the nsf inner wing

It's not the first time either, have been to four or five with same fault

Might be worth a little check after you fix the T50 terminal on the starter

Checked the earth points at the body, all ok. Bit strange you’ve been to four or five with the same fault, do you think it’s a fault from factory or after customers have had work done?

Oh and thanks for saying it’s a good first video, hopefully they’ll get better!

I reckon they had issues at the factory with whatever tool they zip the bolts in, it's a flimsy tab where the wires fit and I reckon if it's not perfectly straight they cross the threads

I just shear the bolt off with an impact and fix the cable to the next hole after a clean up

You spoke, we heard, you fixed, we enjoyed...... Sorted!!

Only thing I would say is just say "A breakdown company attended" don't meation any names as you might upset someone in marketing🤣.
Thank you for the feed back mate, means a lot!
I completely agree about “a breakdown company” I did think about that after I posted it, but the horse had already bolted so to speak 🤣 but definitely feedback I need to keep in mind for next time! Live and learn I suppose, thank you again!

Good point - let's also remember that the roadside folks are working under immense pressure from stressed customers in shit situations 👍

100%, also like the rest of the trade there are some really good techs and some not so good ones, I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with both ends of the spectrum. sorry if I generalised and offended anyone!
